The Shreveport Regional Arts Council Presents
Christmas in the Sky 2016
WE’RE ALL MAD HERE
December 10, 2016
7:00 PM – 3:00 AM
HARRAH’S LOUISIANA DOWNS
AWARD WINNING GALA: Winner of the SPECIAL EVENTS INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE “BEST GALA IN THE WORLD” award, CHRISTMAS IN THE SKY, is produced every other year by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.
The 2016 Christmas in the Sky celebrates the 17th biennial, black-tie, glitzy, glamorous, internationally award-winning, fundraiser for the Shreveport Regional Arts Council. Past themes have included “BEATLEMANIA” in 2010, “APOCALYPSE WOW” in 2012, and “SKY ROCKS” in 2014 where guests arrived to “Rock around the Clock,” walked the “Walk of Rock Stars,” bid “Sky High” during a live auction and danced to four bands with “Pop Princesses” and “Sky Supremes.”
The CHRISTMAS IN THE SKY 2016 theme will entice you to abandon all logic and become one with the theme…to TUMBLE DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE and get caught up in the zaniness of the adventure, the art, and the artisans…to go bonkers with silent bidding…to lose your heads over tasty tarts…to be Shrunk, stretched and stuffed in one of 13 temptingly themed cocktail bars…to join the other 2,499 guests who get CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER and finally go round the bend and decide it’s ok and it’s fun because…
VOLUNTEER DRIVEN FUNDRAISER:
A team of more than 500 VOLUNTEERS produces Christmas in the Sky during an 18-month production period. The production of Christmas in the Sky requires an organization comprising 25 separate volunteer committees working tirelessly throughout the year to secure auction donations and corporate sponsorships, as well as design and create sets, props, costumes, invitations, food displays, and entertainment venues. A temporary WORKSPACE will open in July at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs; the public is welcome to volunteer from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm every Wednesday and Thursday from July 6 through November 1, at which time the volunteering moves to “day and night” full time through December 9th!

Christmas in the Sky is created by a team of 18 professional designers – artists, interior designers, architects, and department store display professionals - from all over Shreveport and Bossier who volunteer their time to bring this extraordinary event to life!! Harrah’s Louisiana Downs is transformed to completely convey the theme of the event from the moment a guest pulls into the valet parking, to the lobby, and throughout two floors of the Racetrack. Much of the event is built “on site” because the sets are so large (each piece averages 16’ tall by 8’ wide). Diesel Driving Academy delivers 10 “Big Rigs” filled with Supplies and Materials!
FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT:
Look for Alice, the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat, The Caterpillar, The White Rabbit—and the “MAD Hatter” to dazzle guests and encourage high bidding! Ten stages feature live entertainment. The gala showcases the Region’s generous “spirited” libations team with 13 bars provided by Republic National Beverage Company, Eagle Distributing Company, and Coca Cola Bottling Company. The Creative Culinary selections are featured at 11 themed hot and cold buffets. Ice sculptures capture the “Alice in Wonderland” theme and fabulous buffets beckon guests to “Eat Me” and ”Drink Me”.
Christmas in the Sky features a gigantic LIVE and SILENT Auction with more than 900 items and services donated by Businesses and Artists in Shreveport-Bossier and all over the World! The LIVE Auction features one of a kind experiences such as international and national trips that are “like no place on earth—full of wonder, mystery and intrigue!” - Toys and Jewels and customized and personal services. There are 15 Silent Auction areas featuring jewelry, accessories, parties, sports memorabilia, wine, and children’s items.
Over 2,500 guests from across the nation (New York, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Little Rock, St. Louis, and Canada) as well as our friends in the “Ark-La-Tex” region purchase tickets to support the every other year gala, which is sold out within two weeks; tickets are $280 and are available November 1.
